Neo Angelique: Tenshi no Namida Mai Murasaki Character Design Comments [The following comments were made by character designer Mai Murasaki in the Neo Angelique: Tenshi no Namida Booklet. Translation by R. Capowski, RACapowski@sceneryrecalled.com, 1/30/2019.] ~*~ Angelique: As with all the characters, I wasn't to get too far away from her image in the previous series. Her outfit keeps her previous palette but features a more mature look. I personally like how I incorporated the design of the pink decorations that were on her previous outfit near her collar. Rayne: There basically weren't many changes, but I thought it would be nice to make him seem more mature. His outfit is the Foundation uniform his brother Jorgo wore in the previous series, but I introduced some variation in the colors and chose a palette that I thought would suit Rayne. Nyx: I was instructed to "maintain his air of nobility; give him the impression of being a somewhat cheerful young man." So I chose lighter blues compared to his outfit in the previous series. I thought the monocle was part of his character's charm, so I left it as is. J.D.: His outfit took on a folk flavor, so I kept his not only his palette but elements from his previous outfit such as the belt, the bare shoulders, and the design with the distinctive rings to make sure he didn't get too far away from the impression his character made previously. Hyuga: His outfit is visually based on a cassock, and his design motif is that of the Order...so his underlying tone of his palette is the black that is the color of most cassocks, and the patterns and designs are taken from the outfits from the previous series of the characters from the Order - that combination created his look. Rene: He's gotten quite taller, and his hair has grown remarkably, too. I was instructed to make him "divine and noble - shining, dazzling" and to "make his outfit more magnificent, too." Therefore, I incorporated more golden elements into his outfit. I kept his palette; the shape of his outfit is taken from that of his previous outfit combined with that of Mathias's outfit. Bernard: The request I received was for "good old Victorian style; he's moved up in the world a bit, owns quality accessories, wears his hair slightly slicked down," etc. I myself like how the design of his shoes and bolo tie are taken from that of his armband from the previous series. Mathias: I kept the design of his outfit from the previous series; I changed only the palette. I was asked to give him "the impression of transience, night, winter, shadows," and such. I went with untying his hair because I thought it set him apart from the other characters and sort of emphasized the aura of ephemerality he had. Erenfried: He's grown up to the point where he's now taller than Ange, but there are no major changes from his design in the previous series. His collar and tie now resemble those of Jorgo from the first series. I changed only small details - his shoes, the palette of his vest, how his hair in back is slightly longer. Jet: I was told that "he has an emphasis on mobility, and he's demonstrating more humanity, so it's OK to show some skin," etc. I made basically no changes; I only changed his jacket. I made his design lighter clothing-wise and tried to make him seem less unapproachable. Roche: I received a rough idea for his design: "He still has the same carefree attitude, and he has a sharp sense of style. His hair is tied back with a patterned bandana," etc. I focused on changes that kept his thrown-together look and added a lot of storage items. I was going back and forth as to whether to show his belly button, but I ended up not doing it. Camille: A seemingly well-bred boy who looks just like the heroine. I was instructed to "link his design to the heroine's appearance", etc., so I chose his palette and whatnot to pair with the heroine's. They look like twins.
