HIKUUTEI (AIRSHIP) DOUJINSHI TRANSLATION original doujinshi by Thiya (Chiya) Nukui, a.k.a. Saru no Yakata. translation by Rebecca Capowski - RACapowski@sceneryrecalled.com. Note: this is a small translation, so I'll be using the English names for conenience. Anything in brackets is description or commentary by me. A new line in a character's speech indicates a new voice balloon. *************************************************************************** cover Final Fantasy VI AIRSHIP Thiya Nukui copyright Saru no Yakata tagline: The War of the Magi - an all-consuming conflict. After it ended, the power known as "magic" vanished from the world. pg. 3 [a portrait of Locke before a church tower. The cover and its reverse apparently counted as pgs. 1 & 2.] pg. 4 FOREWORD Hello! It's Chiya Nukui! I keep on making these FF6 books... (sweatdrop) Yeow... (sweatdrop) This'll make...the fourth one, right? This book's a solo doujinshi! For once. No guest [artists] either. (sweatdrop) gulp... (sweatdrop) Just drawing this one page by myself was bad enough! (sweatdrop) Now I'm thinking...I should've called in a guest. (sweatdrop) This book is really just nothing, but since drawing it really was tough for me (I had no time (sweatdrop)), even if just one kind person enjoys it, I'll be as happy as can be! Well, then - meet you on another page - 1995.3 Chiya Note near pic of Terra: That's _enough_, isn't it?... (sweatdrop) For this illustration... (sweatdrop) pg. 5 A MEETING... [Celes is imprisoned in South Figaro. Locke drops down from above.] Locke: Hey...yup. [Or whatever "oof"-type sound one makes after dropping down from a considerable height.] Celes: .........who's there? pg. 6 [Locke frees Celes; she slumps to her knees.] Celes: (Ohh...) Locke: You OK? I'm Locke.... [Celes looks at Locke and gives a bright, grateful smile...] Celes: ..........Locke.... [...before her expression turns haughty and she holds out an indignant hand, expecting to be hoisted to her feet.] Celes: Lend me your hand, my good man. Locke [angry]: *WHAT--!!!* pg. 7 CROWN [Well, "BAND", actually. The "Slave Crown" is called the "Control Band" in Japanese. Maybe using the U.S. names in the translation was a bad idea...] Artist's Note: <- this's the title [Terra is with Arvis.] Arvis: You were being controlled by this "Slave Crown"! Locke [holding Crown]: So, if you use this, you can make anybody do what you want just by thinking it? Arvis: Yeah, so they say. Locke: ........... Locke [pocketing the Slave Crown]: So, anyhow, about the Empire-- Arvis: DON'T ACT SO SMOOTH. **Author's note: *end* (Lot left out here, huh?!) pg. 8 GAMBLING IN MODERATION Artist's Note: <- the title (sweatdrop) Setzer [card in hand, grinning]: So - what *now*? [We pull back to see Celes, Sabin, Edgar, and Locke gathered around a card table, sweatdropping, while Setzer hums happily before the remnants of a poker game.] Locke: We lost... [sweatdrop] pg. 9 Setzer [getting up]: Well, then - I'll *kiiiindly* take my winnings! [winking] Call me anytime if you'd like another game! Of course, I'd probably *win*, wouldn't I? Ha ha ha ha... [Celes, Locke, and Edgar seethe in anger.] pg. 10 caption: two, three days later Setzer [brandishing deck of cards]: Heee--y! Who's up for a game of cards? [Edgar, Locke, and Sabin, gathered together, stop stunned, then start to disperse...] Sabin: I'm in a hurry! Edgar: I have things to do too... Setzer [stunned]: HUH? What *with* you guys?... pg. 11 Setzer: Ah! Thaaaat's right... They're all afraid of losing to me - so they ran away. Well...guess I'll have to play someone else. Cyan: CARDS? Such a dandyish pursuit. ...how dost one even go _about_ it, anyhow? Setzer: ............ [sweatdrop] [...he turns away...] Setzer [thinking]: Guess I'll find someone else. pg. 12 Relm: CARDS?! _NO WAY!!_ Get off it - I'm busy drawing here! Doodle in Relm's sketch of Strago: old man Setzer [sweatdropping]: Ah...if you'd like, Strago... Relm: NOT MY OLD MAN, EITHER! He's my model!-- Setzer [seething]: ...... [Suddenly...] Voice: Setzer! pg. 13 Mog: I'll play, kupo! Setzer: MOG!? [Setzer gives an indulgent half-smile and ruffles the top of Mog's fur.] Setzer: ...Yeah, but...sure you can play? (Cards, I mean...) Mog [giving a huffy sigh]: Sure, kupo!! Setzer: Oh - all right. Guess there's no one _else_ to play with... pg. 14 [The game gets underway, and...] Mog: Royal flush, kupo! Setzer [dropping all his cards]: HUH? Setzer [thinking]: It's chance - pure chance... Setzer: One more game. Mog: Kupo--!! [But...] Mog: Straight flush, kupo! [Setzer headdesks.] Setzer: *gack* pg. 15 Setzer [thinking]: *Me*, lose twice in a row? *Me*, the so-called "invincible gambler"? Ludicrous!! Maybe if I try... [Setzer takes away the cards and brings out an oblong box.] Setzer: No more cards. Let's play Othello. Mog [sweatdropping]: ............ [But...] Mog: YOU LOSE, SETZER! (I won, kupo!) Setzer [sweatdropping]: ugh...... pg. 16 Setzer: CHESS! THE GAME OF LIFE! UNO! MAH JONGG! MARIO KART! Mog: _CLEAN SWEEP!!_ (Kupo!) Setzer [from under the table]: uhhhhh... [thinking]: What about... Setzer [slamming board on table]: SHOGI - ALL OR NOTHING!!! pg. 17 Setzer [sweatdropping, determined]: HOW ABOUT IT? THINK YOU CAN HANDLE IT? Mog [glint in eye]: Kupo--! pg. 18 Mog: CHECKMATE!! (Hey, how 'bout that?) [Setzer falls on his back, then hoists himself up in utter disbelief...] Setzer: I...I lost EVERYTHING...? pg. 19 [And then Mog gets a deadly serious look on his face that no Moogle should have...] Mog: Gambler Setzer...... ...... I WASN'T EVEN _TRYING!!_ (heh) Caption: Interesting playin' shogi under the moon. [There's a full-moon backdrop, see.] Setzer: !! pg. 20 Caption: And so Setzer lost his confidence, and... Locke: Hey, Setzer! Gimme an attack!! Caption: LAGOMORPH--! Locke [fainting]: OI... Caption pointing to foot in air: Locke Locke: Can't you try just a little harder... Hey--! Caption: Lagomorph trying hard (?) [We see a sweatdropping Setzer amidst an entire field of hopping Lagomorphs.] Locke: ARGH--!! YOU'RE NO USE AT _ALL_!! Setzer: ............ (That's me, anyway...) Edgar [leaning on Mog]: Why do you do it, Mog? Mog [sweatdropping]: Kupo--... pg. 21 ITEM [Sabin strolls up casually to Edgar.] Sabin: Bro, could you gimme a High Potion? Edgar: Um...OK!! [Edgar gives him a...] Edgar: Hai...potion! [Sabin sweatdrops.] Caption pointing to Sabin's hand: potion pg. 22 MY FEELINGS AT THE MOMENT Chiya: Argh...I'm so sick of drawing backgrounds--! It's such a pain--! (But I like drawing backgrounds--) [breaking pencil] I'm fed up with characters, too! I wanna put in the tones! Drawing drives me nuts, but - it's OK - well, not particularly... (Eek--!) (You also like applying the tones!) Argh! Anyhow, I've had it with drawing the middle of the cover--! (I'm just gonna cut corners--) I don't have time--! Arrow pointing to Chiya: has a mistrustful nature and wants to learn by experience but thinks it's a pain and that she doesn't have time Chiya [seizing pen, crying]: If I draw it... (Some do the background tones for meeee.....) (It's impossible...) This's a ramble on the color illustrations I've made up till now. Those with lots of free time, go ahead and read!! I like working in black and white better than color, but... Lately, I've come around to thinking that color might be OK, too... (sweatdrop) I'd like to try drawing a lot of different color illustrations. Of the four doujinshi I've made up till now - "Spinach Rag", "Serenade", "Nocturne", and "Hikuutei" - I personally like the cover pic of "Hikuutei" and the cover of "Serenade" the best. (All you nice people who send me letter, please tell me which cover you like best-- (sweatdrop) I'll take it into consideration when I draw the color illustrations-- (sweatdrop) [There's a short comment here where the crucial kanji is illegible; sorry.]) I wonder how this cover'll come out when I have it printed... I'm really concerned about it... (sweatdrop) It's going to the fine people at Kurieisha [a Japanese printing company]...so I think it'll come out beautifully, but... (sweatdrop) They shrank it on me...so I'm naturally worried. But I'm also happy. I wonder if the book'll come back quick... (Send it to the press earlier! *argh*) I wonder what I'll do for the next color illustration.... I like thinking about the designs for the illustrations, too...huh? pg. 23 [A drawing of Gau holding a Sabin doll.] The circle "Saru no Yakata" ["Monkey House"] is Chiya Nukui's personal circle. It's stayed active in the game genre and is FF6-centric. It produces binsen (only through mail order); those interested should write to the address inside, enclosing an 80-yen self-addressed stamped envelope. Paper will be sent in reply. By the way, I'm currently thinking of releasing an FF6 book and then a Fire Emblem book in May! ^_^ As for events, I'll be participating in most of the C. City at Nagoya and the C. City C. Live at Haremi. Hope to see you there. HELP WANTED! Consignment seller or salesgirl! ^_^ Responsible person older than high-school age, telephone OK. Any kind-hearted person who does consignment regularly and is willing to say "let's do this!", please contact me! -_-;; (No postage necessary.) (Also) DYI PR, any time, any kind OK, please describe the type of event and type of participation -_-;; I'm desperate, so pleeeease -_-;; pgs. 24-25 [The facing page has a pretty, full-page illustration of Terra.] AFTERWORD It's Chiya! This is the afterword! Well - I really didn't have enough time for this book... Before I started drawing, I thought that I was going to draw it up "nice and proper", but the results ended up like this. *gulp* But I think that every time I make a book, huh. This was the first time I was really at my wit's end, though. Next time, I'm going to leave myself lots of time to draw - at least a month - and do my best! *sparkle* (My apologies to Pochi-san (my cat)!) This time around, I was DETERMINED!! to draw in background PROPERLY!! because taking time on the backgrounds is my favorite thing to do. But this time, it didn't fit into the stories, and I'm terribly sorry. (sweatdrop) Oh! That reminds me...Chrono Trigger came out, didn't it? Should be fun, don't you think? Hmmm. Have to play it and see. Yeah. Oh - I'm waiting to see how you liked it! I'd be thrilled if you'd write down what you thought of it and sent it in - anything is fine! It doesn't even have to be complete sentences - even just sentence fragments or rude stuff would be great!!
