Les Miserables (Re Mizeraburu)
nani ka suru ni mo rikutsu ga iru no? sore wa kyuukutsu dakara
uchiakechae yo mojimoji sezu ni sore ga koi no tehajime
dokidoki suru ne kurakura suru ne soshite gitaa o porori
boku no taiyou yuu a mai sanshain
oo sore miyo, ju teemu
Do you have to have a reason for everything you do? C'mon, what a drag!
Just tell her right out, without hesitation! That's how love begins!
Your heart's pounding, right? And your head's spinning? Strummin' out sad songs on your
guitar
My soleil, you are my sunshine
O sole mio, je t'aime
a-a nante suteki na hito boku no jinsei bara iro sa
nido to wa aenai hito yo unmei da
Ahhh...such a splendid person; the rose color to my life
A person the likes of which I'll never meet again! It's fate!
hajime wa tereru dare mo sou sa koudou aru nomi
damatte te mo hi wa mata kurete yuku re mizeraburu
deaigashira sore ga kikkake guuzen romansu
atatte kudake nakutcha dame
otoko ni nari na yo
At first you're self-conscious, just like everyone! You just have to act!
You're lost for words, but dusk's yet again falling - les miserables!
A chance meeting - that's the opportunity for an accidental romance
Seize the moment - open your heart!
That's the true mark of a man!
kinenbi wa mochi sore igai de mo chansu wa nogasanaide
okurimono ni mo orijinariti dakyou wa yurusarenai
wakuwaku suru ne harahara suru ne bishitto kimete potsuri
kawaii hito yo, uoainii airen
o sore miyo, senyooru
Your day to remember is at hand; now, don't let it or this chance pass you by
Originality in every gift is a must - no ifs, ands, or buts!
You're on edge, right? And you're trembling? Pulling yourself together, then hesitating
A cute girl! A whiny lover -
o sole mio, seņor!
a-a utsukushiki hitomi ga boku no jinsei kuruwaseru
uruwashiki sono kuchibiru tameiki sa
Ahhh...the beauty in those eyes has turned my life upside down
The sweetness of those lips - sigh!
tsukikage de wa koibitotachi ga ai o katatte ru
muudo wa ii ima o nogashita nara re mizeraburu
kata o daite sore ga kikkake hitsuzen romansu
ishibashi tataite kowasou
otoko ni naru n da
Sweethearts speak their love by the light of the moon
The mood is right; if you let this moment slip away - les miserables!
Arms around each other - that's the opportunity for your inevitable romance
Knock down your hesitation -
then you'll become a true man!
a-a nante suteki na hito boku no jinsei bara iro sa
nido to wa aenai hito yo unmei da
Ahhh...such a splendid person; the rose color to my life
A person the likes of which I'll never meet again! It's fate!
hajime wa tereru dare mo sou sa koudou aru nomi

At first you're self-conscious, just like everyone! You just have to act!
You're lost for words, but dusk's yet again falling - les miserables!
A chance meeting - that's the opportunity for an accidental romance
Seize the moment - open your heart!
That's the true mark of a man!
Liner Notes from Lunar Songs 1:
Nall is a difficult character to compose for; I found myself stumped -
but I think this cute, Nall-like song did the job. If I ever get another
opportunity, I'd like to try writing a song about Nall's beloved fish...
Translation Notes:
I'm not sure from what perspective Nall is singing this song - if he's
singing it about himself being in love (unlikely - can't be about Ruby,
either, since the song was originally released on a Lunatic Festa
Silver Star Story disc) or someone else (Alex/Arhes) or what. The
subject of the sentences and phrases (i.e., "I" or "you") is often left
unmarked.
Rosie-chan, however, writes in with this possible explanation:
"...my guess would be that the song consists of Nall encouraging Alex to
step up to love's challenge (i.e., Luna). The biggest direct reference to
this, I think is the first stanza, fourth line down, the "sad songs of
your guitar" line you were having so much trouble with. In the original
Silver Star Story [Lunar: The Silver Star], Alex played a harp instead of
the ocarina, which would account for the reference to a stringed
instrument (and making guitar a slight mistranslation, but not a huge
one)."
It does say "guitar", but I think this's the best explanation I've heard.
Thanks, Rosie!
"Taiyou" in line 4 means "sun", but I've translated it here as "soleil".
Hey, the song does have a li'l French in it, and "My sun, you are my
sunshine" sounded repetitive to me, all right?
Lines 9 and 28 are written in the lyrics booklet as "kurete iku" but are
sung as "kurete yuku". Both phrases mean the same thing.
Foreign phrases: "o sole mio" = "my one and only" (Italian); "je t'aime"
= "I love you" (French). (Y'all know that "les miserables" means
"miserable/poor people" from the musical, right?) What's written in
katakana as "senyooru" I'm fairly sure is "seņor" - at first I thought
it was a French phrase, with "se" being "c'est" ("that's") and "nyooru"
being an adjective, but there's no French word that fits that sound.
The phrase "gitaa o porori" gave me considerable trouble and prevented me
from translating the song for a while. Help from two sources enabled this
translation, however - Janet of the Lunar Goods Guide informed me that
"porori" is the sound a teardrop makes in Japanese, and a kind soul named
Mary explained the meaning of the word's use in the phrase as follows:
"there is an onomatopoeic word in my Japanese-English dictionary that has
to do with playing a stringed instrument such as a guitar: poron-poron.
...I know the word isn't identical, but maybe the phrase in the song is a
pun of some sort on the words for the sound of a teardrop and the sound of
playing an instrument..."
Line 13's translation of "kinenbi wa mochi" is probably wrong. When I
double-checked it with native Japanese speakers on BBSes, I got responses
from all over the map, from what I've written above to "of course" doing
something on an anniversary ("mochi" being short for "mochiron") to the
consumption of rice cakes ("mochi" again) on special days. Bottom line:
no one knows what it means, at least not anyone forthcoming.
