I will not succumb to the evil hand of destruction creeping over our fair Lunar! *That* lovely young lady defends the lush city of Vheen, and I've studied for the sake of that day when I will realize the love I've yearned for for so long - I, the snobbish, elite Nasch! ima koso kenzan hibiku kodama wa dare de mo nai no da madou kihei nasshu fuuun kyuutsuge yomigaeru warumono-domo ni wa yousha wa shinai zo ai suru hito o tasukeru kenage na kokorone nakama o uragiri kizutsuketa kedo jitsu wa suki sa kekkou uchiki na nasshu Now, we descend; the echoes resounding about us are no one to be feared at all. No more cowardice or deception for me; I won't accept defeat! After all, when it comes to pride alone, nobody can beat me! Vanquish Ghaleon! I, the thunderbolt, Nasch! Liner Notes from Lunar Songs 2: Dai-chan [reference to Daisuke Sakaguchi, Nasch's Japanese seiyuu] is such a cheerful person, and he always brightens up everybody wherever he goes. He infused this song with with same energy. Though the lyrics were created with the same good cheer, by the way, I'm quite pleased with them myself. When I thought up of the line "find out their weak points and deal them an unexpected defeat!", I danced around like a lunatic, as if I were some sort of genius. Translation Notes: "Vheen" is the Japanese version of "Vane". "Kenzan" in line 8 does NOT hold the vaguely-stated definition of "meeting" or "seeing" listed in every single damn online and off-line Japanese-English dicitonary out there, but instead is a basically archaic and rather pompous/ overdramatic synonym for "toujou", meaning "appearance"/"making an appearance" or the "enter" of a play script's "enter [character x], stage right". It took a query to a couple native-Japanese posters on a Japanese- language message board to clear up that (endlessly-frustrating) matter. Also, "kenzan" is not given a verb, which leaves its status as declarative or imperative up in the air. "Ima koso" is often used with imperatives, and the first and third stanzas of the song have imperatives at or near their beginnings, but "kenzan" is not a word that lends itself to the imperative tense, and so I think that the meaning would be made a bit clearer were that the case. The subject of the comments in lines 12-14 - I initially thought that the "kenage na kokorone" of line 12 referred to the established subject/object at hand, Nasch's "ai suru hito" (Mia), but I later discovered that "kenage" is an adjective that applies solely to males. Terrific. As for the other phrases in 12-14, however, though their subjects/objects are not often explicitly defined, as Nasch is talking of his love for Mia throughout (and as the lines are bookended with definite S/O references to her), I have assumed that she is the person in question and have interpreted the lines as such.
