Translation of Lein's (Nial's) quest, Phantasy Star III, Japanese version Notes: Name differences are noted below. If some of the Japanese name romanizations don't match the ones used in the Compendium translation, it's because I've finally given up on trying to figure out PS3's bizarre name changes and variants. An inconclusive attempt to hash things out can be found at http://www.sceneryrecalled.com/trans/ps3names.txt. In rough order of appearance, continued from Kein's quest: Nial --> Lein Divisia --> Grandirecta Alair --> Luise ("lu-EE-say") Ryan --> Dan Aerone --> Pilota The "y" in "Mystoke" is pronounced with a long "i". PS3's various domes are not given specific names ("Aridia", "Frigidia", etc.) in the Japanese version. Likewise, Alisa III's two "moons" are not given proper names in the original; they're just referred to as the "azure moon" and "violet moon" instead of Azura and Dahlia. Many thanks to Neilast and Mike Ripplinger for use of the format employed in their PS3 English scripts - which can be found at http://www.phantasy-star.net/psiii/psiii.html, if you'd like to do some English vs. Japanese side-by-side comparisons. If you'd like to take a look at the original Japanese script, it can be found at http://www.sceneryrecalled.com/trans/ps3olein.txt. Please, we request reinforcements from Riik! (The two soldiers depart.) Kein: Lein Sa Riik...my son. As you have heard, monsters have invaded your mother Lena's homeland of Satera. There must be Laians commanding them, but we have no idea from which land these Laians come... Take Searren and Mieu with you and investigate at once! I will marshal our armies here! Kein: I have a duty to protect our kingdom of Riik... But were there other Laian lands beside Cille and Shusoran?... Lena: If it gets dangerous, don't be reckless; come back home! Soldiers: - I think I heard that the Laian armies of monsters are coming from the south of Satera. - I'm the messenger from Satera. The enemy forces are going by the name of "Lune's Army." Nobles: - And to think we were so relieved to have finally gotten a bridge built between Riik and Satera... - Poor Lady Lena. RIIK ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Women): - If you have the Twins' Ruby, you can go through the cave to the southeast! Townspeople (Child): - As long as Lord Kein's here, we'll be safe here in Riik! SATERA ----------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers: - Ohh, Lord Lein! We came under attack! Monsters under the banner of a "Lune's Army" suddenly appeared out of the cave to the southwest! In an instant, our country was... What can I tell Lady Lena... YAATA ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Lune's monsters have appeared near the Port City of Yaata as well. Townspeople (Women): - I thought I'd seen the name of Lune in the legends of old... - There once was another man who went by the name of Lune - one who once served as Laia's right-hand man. Yes, yes! His name was Lune, Lune Kay Eshyr - heir to the house of Eshyr! HYURRI ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Old Men): - Lune... But that's impossible! Lord Orakio was supposed to have exiled him to the ends of the earth 1,000 years ago! Townspeople (Women): - Lord Lein, please defend this Island Village of Hyurri from Lune! Townspeople (Children): - But I heard that Orakio banished Lune to the ends of the earth... TUNNELS ----------------------------------------------------------- (All tunnels except for the Riik-Grandirecta tunnel, Riik- desert world tunnel, and desert world-snow world tunnel are occupied by soldiers of Lune.) Soldier: - We are soldiers of Lord Lune, who is searching for our revered Laia's lost treasure! Do not interfere! PALACES ----------------------------------------------------------- (All of Laya’s Palaces except for the Riik-desert world palace, Riik-Grandirecta palace, desert world-snow world palace, and Grandirecta-snow world palace are occupied by soldiers of Lune.) Soldiers: - We are soldiers of Lord Lune, who is searching for our revered Laia's lost treasure! Do not interfere! - We are soldiers of Lord Lune, who is searching for our revered Laia's lost treasure! Do not interfere! - We are soldiers of Lord Lune, who is searching for our revered Laia's lost treasure! Do not interfere! NORTHERN GRANDIRECTA ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Lune's younger sister, Luise, is a captive in our castle here in Grandirecta. - "Glorious Grandirecta" town is divided by the castle into north and south. - Our Lune is THE Lune! Lune Kay Eshyr, Laia's right- hand man! He and his sister Luise have been in cryogenic sleep for 1,000 years! GRANDIRECTA CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers: - We bid you fair welcome, people of Orakio! Our castle is secure. Please, feel at ease! - I kidnapped Lune's sister! I found her just wandering around! - Luise will spend the rest of her life below in our dungeon. - If we didn't have that law of Orakio's about "take no life," that Luise'd be... King: - Kidnapping a princess is hardly behavior worthy of a knight, but... (The party finds Luise in the dungeon and frees her.) Luise: Thank you for rescuing me. I am Lune's sister, Luise... Long ago, my brother Lune was a very kind man... But now, he has forgotten himself...he thirsts for revenge...for... old wounds... I can't stop my brother by myself anymore... Please, find a way to stop my brother Lune. Narrator: Luise went back to Lune. GRANDIRECTA CASTLE (after freeing Luise) ----------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers: - L, Lune is coming! He'll be coming for his revenge! - I don't know anything! I wasn't the one who kidnapped Luise!... - How can His Majesty be so complacent? Lune could be coming for his revenge! - I wonder if Lune keeps that law of Laia's about "take no life"... King: - So you let Luise escape... Just as well, I suppose. Knights shouldn't be taking hostages in the first place. NORTHERN GRANDIRECTA (after freeing Luise) ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - If you could intercede on our behalf with Lady Luise and Lord Lune... - Well, goodbye to Glorious Grandirecta... - Our Lune is THE Lune! Lune Kay Eshyr, Laia's right- hand man! He and his sister Luise have been in cryogenic sleep for 1,000 years! SOUTHERN GRANDIRECTA ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Old Men): - I hear there is a rebel army that battles Lune beyond the forest that lies far to the west. Townspeople (Women): - The rebel army had wanted to go to the desert world, but...I don't think they know that the only way to get there is through the cave to the southeast of Riik Castle. REBEL’S CAVE ----------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers: - This is a hideout for those Laians who rebelled against Lune. - Even Orakio had a tough time against Lune... He's a regular devil, the worst of the worst - and the strongest of 'em, too! - Someone somewhere called back the Violet Moon. That's why Lune awoke from his slumber there! Argh - who would do such an idiotic thing?! - Orakio banished Lune and Luise along with the Violet Moon where they live, but Lune swore revenge and entered cryogenic sleep with Luise! - There are lots of Lune's soldiers looking for something in the desert world. We want to go there, too, but we don't really know how to get there. The Twins' Ruby that Dan has seems to be the key, though... Dan: I am Dan Ka Cium, leader of this rebel army. Well met, spies of Lune! Lein: You're mistaken! We come from a people at war with Lune! Dan: Do you think we don't know who came to the rescue of Lune's sister Luise? Dogs! Put them to the noose! (Lune suddenly appears.) Lune: My, it's always so ugly when families fight... Dan: L...Lune Kay Eshyr... Lune: You may call me Emperor Lune from now on, Dan Ka Cium... I had originally planned to tear you all limb from limb... but that man there, though he may be my enemy, has not seemed to have forgotten his honor as a knight. Just this once, I will look aside! Abandon your foolish rebellion! (Lune vanishes.) Dan: It seems that the mistake is mine. If you're fighting against Lune, let me join you! A while ago, we got our hands on some parts from a robot that could move around in water! They're just junk to us Laians, but that robot over there can use them, correct? Narrator: Dan Ka Cium joined the party! HASATAKA ----------------------------------------------------------- Cyborgs: - VISITORS ARE RARE IN THE FORGOTTEN DESERT TOWN OF HASATAKA. - WE ARE AFRAID OF DAMAGING OUR FELLOW ROBOTS, SO WE REFUSE TO FIGHT. - THERE'S A WELLSPRING OF WATER THAT HAS APPEARED TO THE SOUTH THAT HAS NO APPARENT SOURCE. - AN ANDROID GONE MAD WANDERS THE DESERT. - IF YOU HAVE SUBMARINE PARTS, YOU CAN DIVE INTO THE SPRING AND FIND THE SOURCE OF THE WATER. DESERT WORLD ----------------------------------------------------------- Miun: Oh! You are Lord Orakio...I've been waiting to see you for... ...? NO! You're not Lord Orakio! You don't have his black sword! Oh! Where is my Lord Orakio? WHIRLPOOL ----------------------------------------------------------- Searren: There is an underground waterway. I will follow it and dive below. (Searren transforms into submersible mode and dives.) Narrator: You've surfaced in another world hidden beneath the desert dome... LAIA’S PALACE ----------------------------------------------------------- Old Men: - Lady Laia entrusted the future of 1,000 years hence to her young sister... - For 1,000 years, from generation to generation, we have protected our sleeping beauty... Over the ages, she has awoken for only one month every seven years... - The sleeping princess is the younger sister of the legendary goddess Laia. Her name is also Laia... The goddess of legend Laia gave her younger sister her own name. - If you wish to learn the truth, use Lady Laia's Star of Mystery to unlock the southwest cave and head for the world of snow! Laia: My name is Laia... I am the younger sister of the Laia who ascended into legend. I inherited my name from my elder sister, the Laia who fought Orakio... I was still very young then, so I don't remember much about my sister - but the image of her leaving at the side of a knight with a black sword remains with me to this day... I wish to learn the truth about my sister. Please take me with you to the outside world. Narrator: Laia joined the party! MYSTOKE ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Women): - Please, hurry to Mystoke Castle - those whose coming was foretold by legend... - The truth of Lady Laia and Lord Orakio will be revealed within Mystoke. - At last, Lady Laia's kin has come to Mystoke, the Castle of Silence... - Hold Laia's pendant to your ear, then tell its truth to Lune. You can reach Lune's Violet Moon from Pilota, south of Grandirecta. - You will be tested to see if you are worthy of the name of Laia. When you obtain the Laia Pendant, all of Laia's temples will open to you. MYSTOKE CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- (The party finds Laia’s Pendant and uses it.) Narrator: Laia holds the pendant to her ear...and a beautiful voice is heard... "I hereby impart the truth of this world to my sister. 1000 years before your time, I fought Orakio. During that war, Orakio and I both suffered wounds and lost friends. But we were being deceived...manipulated - both our side, with the wondrous powers we wielded, and Orakio's, with all the machines over which it held dominion. There was an unholy power that had set our two peoples at war... When Orakio and I came to this realization, we lost many friends, such as Lune. And so, Orakio and I are leaving now, alone, to confront this unholy power. To you, I leave the name of Laia and my pendant. Farewell... My little sister..." PILOTA ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Lune's stronghold is on a satellite. The Violet Moon up in the sky - that's it. Townspeople (Old Men): - Discover the true nature of our world, the Alisa III! - You wish to travel to the Violet Moon, you say? Then, use our shuttle below. There's a secret passage that leads underground at the end of the stone path here in our village. Townspeople (Women): - Welcome to the Village of Guidance, Pilota, where lost technology is kept alive. - Once, there were two man-made satellites - the Azure Moon and the Violet Moon - that revolved around our world of the Alisa III. (The party finds a shuttle in the dungeon. They board it and fly high above Alisa III.) Nial: Look down at where we launched from!... Mieu: The world we live in... So that's its true form... Dan: An enormous spaceship created by our ancestors' ancient civilization... (The shuttle draws near the violet moon.) Searren: We have arrived at the satellite. VIOLET MOON ----------------------------------------------------------- (The shuttle lands on the violet moon.) Laia: A satellite... So the moons in our sky were spaceships too... (The party finds Lune in the dungeon.) Lune: This Violet Moon belongs to us - a gift from Lady Laia. We were exiled along with it 1000 years ago, thanks to Orakio. I entered into cryogenic sleep, to await the day that I would once again fight at Lady Laia's side. When I awoke, I found that 1,000 years had passed...that Lady Laia had died at Orakio's hands...and he at hers... Lein: Lune! Listen to what we have to say! Lune: Filthy minions of Orakio! Listen to the rage of my Lune Slicer instead! (A battle between Lune and the party ensues. Lune is defeated.) Lune: ...go ahead...kill me like an Orakian would... ...why won't you kill me?... ...?...?...!! ...that's...the Laia Pendant! Then that means you...my lady, you are...! Laia: I inherited the name of Laia from my older sister. I am also from the world of 1,000 years past. Please listen to what I have to say, Lune. Narrator: Laia and the pendant told all. Lune fell to his knees... Lune: So...Lady Laia fought together with Orakio... ...And YOU are the treasure to whom Lady Laia entrusted the future... Narrator: Lune returned his slicer to his side. Lein's journey is at an end! Lune: Lein Sa Riik! Well done; thank you for stopping me. ...And I have yet to give my thanks for rescuing my sister Luise... You seem to have been greatly on Luise's mind as of late... How about it...will you not take Luise to be your wife? Narrator: Learning the truth, the peoples of Laia and Orakio ceased all hostilities.
