One day in December of the year A.W. 1268, you, an agent from Paseo on the planet Motavia, receive a letter from your old friend, Dr. Ken Miller, a scientist. He's made the greatest discovery of the century, he says, and he's invited you to come and see it. Using your vacation time, you travel to Dr. Miller's home on the ice planet of Dezoris. But soon after your reunion, both the doctor and the machine he invented are spirited away by mysterious forces. Your adventure to rescue the doctor begins! pg. 4 MAIN CHARACTER INTODUCTION You The hero of the game, an agent from the city of Paseo on Motavia. Invited by Dr. Miller, you arrive at the city of Carsonville on Dezoris just when a crisis arises. Ken Miller An old friend of yours, a young scientist dedicated heart and soul to his research who is abducted. pg. 5 Laila Dr. Miller's younger sister. She fears for her kidnapped brother's safety. Lucero A man who lives alone in a cabin on the outskirts of Carsonville. He will assist you. Baron Director of Baron Laboratories, a weapons-development facility. He has stolen Dr. Miller's machine and wishes to use it for ill purposes. pg. 6 HOW TO PLAY [Diagram outlining various parts of Game Gear] pg. 7 Control Pad Moves the cursor to imput commands. Start Button Starts the game. 1 Button (Cancel Button) Cancels commands. 2 Button (Confirm Button) Confirms commands. Also allows the player to see the rest of a long message. pg. 8 STARTING THE GAME Starting a New Game When the title appears, press the Start button. The menu screen will come up. Select "START" with the control pad, press the Start button, and the game will cut to the name selection screen. [Picture caption: Menu screen] Select a name for the hero up to 6 letters long. 1. Select characters with the control pad and press the 2 button to confirm. *If you wish to delete a character, press the 1 button or select the <- character with the control pad and press the 1 or 2 button. *If you want to leave a space, select the -> button and press the 2 button. 2. To confirm your name when you have completed the selection process, select the E character and press the 2 button. [Picture caption: Name-selection screen] pg. 9 Continuing a Game In the menu screen, select "CONTINUE" with the control pad and press the Start button. The game will cut to the password-entry screen. [Picture caption: Menu screen] 1. Enter the password you've memorized the same way you did your character's name. *See pg. 17 for more about passwords. 2. You'll proceed to the name-selection screen. Enter your hero's name. *If you enter a different name, you won't be able to continue the game. [Picture caption: Password-entry screen] pg. 10 LOOKING AT THE SCREEN This game is an adventure in which you advance the story through choosing commands. The game's basic screen is organized into the following three windows: top left: graphic window top right: command window bottom: message window pg. 11 Graphic Window Displays a graphic illustrating what the hero currently sees. Message Window Displays the messages and story. If a small triangle appears in the lower-right corner of the window, press the 2 button, and the message will advance. Command Window Displays the commands used to advance the game. There are seven basic commands in all (see pg. 12 for further explanation). Press "down" on the control pad to display the rest of the commands (and press "up" on the control pad to return to the top of the command window). Select a command with the control pad and press the 2 button. pg. 12 BASIC COMMANDS Move Command used to move from place to place. Press up, down, left, or right on the control pad to choose in which direction you'd like to move and press the 2 button to confirm. *You can move north (N), east (E), west (W), south (S), UP, or DOWN. Look Command used to give the player a detailed description of the surroundings. Select what you'd like to examine with the control pad and press the 2 button. pg. 13 Talk Command used to strike up a conversation. If you spot someone to talk to, press the 2 button. If you use "Talk" when in the shop, you'll be able to buy things from the shopkeeper. How to Shop In Carsonville, there's only one shop, operated by a Dezorian. When you talk to the shopkeeper, an item & price list will appear. Select the items you wish to buy with the control pad and press the 2 button. pg. 14 Take Command used to take found items. Select what you'd like to take with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button. Use Command used to employ to items you have in your possession. When this command is selected, a list of the player's inventory will appear. Select which item you'd like to use with the control pad and press the 2 button. pg. 15 Next, choose what you'd like to use the item on with the control pad and press the 2 button. Drop Command used to throw away items in your inventory. Select the item you'd like to throw away with the control pad and press the 2 button. There are items that you can't throw away, however. *Dropped items remain in the areas in which they are dropped. If you wish to retrieve a dropped item, return to the place where you left it and select the "Take" command. pg. 16 System If you select this command, four subcommands will appear in the graphic window. Select the desired subcommand with the control pad and press the 2 button. Then, pressing either the 1 or 2 button will return you to the main screen. Map Displays a map of the layout of the places the hero has visited. North, east, west, and south are represented by N, E, W, and S respectively; UP and DOWN are spelled out. The hero's current position is represented by the red square. You can use the control pad to scroll up or down on large maps. pg. 17 Status Allows you to glimpse the hero's status. HP: Health. Meseta: Money. Message Speed Determines the message speed. Press left or right on the control pad to select the desired message speed. Password Gives you a password to resume the game later when you'd like to take a break. That way, by entering this password, you can start right at the point you left off the next time you turn on the game. pg. 18 BATTLE COMMANDS When the hero encounters an enemy, a set of four battle commands will appear in the command window. Select the desired command with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button. Move Used to try to retreat. (See pg. 12 for more on the "Move" command.) Look Used to take a look at your environs. (See pg. 12.) HP Displays the hero's HP. The hero loses consciousness when his HP reaches 0 in battle. Press either the 1 or 2 button to return to the battle screen. pg. 19 Fight When you select this command, a list of the items currently in your inventory is displayed. Select which item you'd like to use with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button. If You Select a Weapon A dice roll will take place; the number shown will determine how much damage you inflict on the enemy. *The number of dice throw varies with the weapon you use. pg. 20 If You Selected an Item Other Than a Weapon A message will appear detailing the effect the item had on the enemy. There are some items that cannot be used in battle. When the hero has finished his turn, a dice roll will take place for the enemy; the number displayed determines the damage the enemy inflicts on you. *If you defeat the enemy, the command screen will return to its basic layout. pg. 21 GAME ADVICE *Carefully examine your surroundings when you enter a new area. You might find some important items lying around. *When you obtain an item, carefully examine it. You might discover some unexpected uses for it. *Try talking to the same people repeatedly. If circumstances have changed, they might divulge some new information. *Check the map from time to time to see which places you haven't visited yet. Then try to go and check them out.
