The legendary heroine Alisa, endowed with this power of prophecy, foretold the future of this Alesaland. pg. 5 Forseeing a dire calamity, for the sake of Alesaland, Alisa seized this door to a moment frozen in time, and... Unable to plumb the depths of this riddle, the people forgot of Alisa's existence, and time heartlessly marched on. It is here, the home of this story's hero, Alec, that the youthful Minima finds a pendant. And Alec's father, Morg, disappears... When they bring this mysterious pendant to the chief of their village and Old Rob, they are told that it is the proof of the two chosen warriors. Could the key to Morg's disappearance lie with the pendant? The pair quickly head off on their journey to rescue Morg... pg. 8 CONTROL Controller Operation Now, the journey at last begins. But, before you head off, let's make sure we know the functions of the buttons. Control Pad Used when selecting a command. Used to move the heroes on the overworld screen. pg. 9 Start Button Used to start the game. *You can increase the message speed if you hold down the Start button while the message is being displayed. 1 Button Used to cancel a command or item choice. 2 Button Used to confirm a command or item choice. pg. 10 GAME START How to Begin the Game Game Overview The player takes the part of Alec and Minima. You must rescue Alec's kidnappped father, Morg, thwart the evil ringleader of the fearsome monsters and robots, and return peace to Alesaland. How to Begin the Game When the title screen appears, press the Start button, and the start menu window at right will appear. To start a new game, select the "Start Anew" option with your control pad and confirm with the 2 button. pg. 11 Resuming a Game If you select the "Resume" option, you can resume the game from the last point at which you saved. Select the "Resume" option with your control pad and confirm with the 2 button, and the above window will open. Select the number of the saved game you'd like to load and confirm with the 2 button. How to Save When you'd like to stop the game and save your data, you can use the village church to rest. When you go to the church, you can choose "Cure" [to be cured] or "Save". Select "Save" with your control pad and confirm with the 2 button. Next, select the number of the save slot you'd like to use with the control pad and save using the 2 button. (You can save up to 3 different games.) pg. 12 Alec and Minima's journey begins in Tedo. Let's get the adventure underway and wander both town and countryside. Making Conversation In order to make your way with the adventure, it's necessary to gather information. To do so, you should listen to the important advice given to you from the various citizens in towns and villages. When a flashing triangle appears at the end of a message window, press either the 1 or 2 button to continue. Try also to go into buildings with large entrances. You might find more people to converse with. pg. 13 Alec's Home Visit Alec's home in Tedo; Alec's kind-hearted mother will always take you in. When you find yourself exhausted from your adventure and your energy drained, go back home. Your HP and MP will be completely replenished there. When You're Wounded When one of your comrades is wounded, he or she cannot fight. Visit the nearest church, and he or she shall be revived. When all of the party members have been wounded, the game will restart from your last save point. It's always best to save whenever you visit a new town. pg. 14 COMMAND Commands If you press the 2 button while walking about, a window will appear at the top-left of the screen. Use the control pad to select the command you wish to use, and press the 2 button to execute the command. If a triangle mark appears in the window, you can use the control pad to scroll the window in the direction the triangle is pointing. Status This command enables you to see your characters' current health, cash on hand, and the weapons and armor they have equipped. Select "Status", press the 2 button, sleect the character whose status you wish to check, and press the 2 button to confirm. The status window will appear. LEVEL---Current level. Your level increases with the amount of experience you gain. EXP---Current amount of experience. The more monsters you defeat, the more experience you'll have. GOLD---Current amount of money. You earn money by defeating monsters. pg. 15 HP---Hit points. The number to the left represents your current amount of HP, while the number to the right represents your maximum HP. You will be wounded if your HP slips to 0. MP---Magic points. The number to the left represents your current amount of MP, while the number to the right represents your maximum MP. You will not be able to cast magic if your MP slips to 0. STR---Strength, attack power INT---Intelligence, likelihood of magic success AGL---Agility, likelihood of attack success, speed of attack PRT---Protection, defensive power STR, INT, AGL, and PRT are all affected by the weapons and armor you have equipped. pg. 16 If you press the 2 button while the status window is open, the weapons and armor a character currently has equipped will appear. Weapon Armor Shield Item This command will display the items you currently have in your inventory (exlcuding the ones you have equipped). Select the "Item" command and confirm with the 2 button, and a summary of the items you currently have will be shown. Select the item you wish to use or equip with the control pad and press the 2 button. Next, select which character you wish to use or equip the item on and press the 2 button to confirm. pg. 17 Magic If you want to use healing magic or such while walking about, select "Magic", press the 2 button, and select which character you'd like to use magic. From the list of magic spells this character can cast, select which spell you'd like to use with the control pad and press the 2 button. Next, select on whom you'd like to cast the spell, then press the 2 button. You may not be able to use certain magics until your character gains some levels. pg. 18 Take off Removes equipped items from a character. Select "Take off" and press the 2 button. Next, choose the character you wish with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button; the character's status window will open. Decide which item you'd like to take off with the control pad and press the 2 button. pg. 19 Order Switches Alec and Minima's marching order and order of attack in battle. Select "Order" and press the 2 button, and the characters' marching order will change. Message Changes the message speed. Select "Message" and press the 2 button. You can select a speed from 1-6 with the control pad; the higher the speed number, the faster the message speed. pg. 20 SHOP Shops There are many different shops in the towns and villages. The items these shops sell differ from town to town. Item Shop You can shop for items here. Inn You can recover your HP and MP here. Weapon Shop Sells weapons and armor. Church Can restore wounded characters. Can also "save" data. (See page 11 for info on being wounded.) Buy When you select "Buy" and press the 2 button, you'll be shown a list of things you can buy. Select the item you want with the control pad and confirm your choice with the 2 button. If you do not wish to buy anything, select "Leave" and press the 2 button. pg. 21 Sell Select "Sell" and press the 2 button, and your item list will appear. Select the item you want to sell with the control pad and press the 2 button. If you do not wish to sell anything, select "Leave" and press the 2 button. Magic Shop You can buy and sell magic here. Buying and Selling Magic When you enter the magic shop, you will be asked whether you wish to "buy" or "sell"; select the desired transaction with the control pad and press the 2 button. Next, select the character you wish to use and press the 2 button to confirm. Once you sell a magic spell, you can no longer use it. pg. 22 BATTLE Battle When you take your first step outside the city limits, you will face many monsters. Battle Mode When you encounter a monster, you will automatically enter battle mode. The point of fighting these battles is to gain experience and money so that your characters will quickly rise in level. top left: command window top right: monster window bottom: message window pg. 23 Fight Attack normally. Select "Fight" and press the 2 button, then select the monster you wish to attack with the control pad and press the 2 button to execute the attack. A monster appears! Use the control pad to select your target... What manner of monster is this?! pg. 24 Magic Attack with magic. Select "Magic" and press the 2 button, select which magic you'd like to use with the control pad, and confirm your choice with the 2 button. Next, choose which monster you'd like to cast a spell on with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button. You can also cast healing magic on your allies. Defend Defend against enemy attacks. When you defend, the damage attacks inflict on you lessens a bit, but you can't attack. pg. 25 Run When you encounter a monster you cannot defeat or when your HP is low, you can try to run away. There is no limit to the amount of times you can attempt to do so. Item Use an item in battle to heal a comrade or attack an enemy. Select "Item" and press the 2 button, then select which item you wish to use and press 2 to confirm. Next, select on whom you wish to use the item with the control pad and confirm with the 2 button. There are some items you cannot use in battle. pg. 26 CHARACTER Character Introduction Alec A good-humored boy who's known Minima since early childhood. The story Starts with the pendant Minima finds one day. Minima A girl who lives in Tedo village. The darling of everyone in town. pg. 27 Old Rob Alesaland's foremost scholar. He provides Minima and Alec with words of guidance on their quest. Dorom An old man who lives in the deep forest. Daedalus Is he the true mastermind they say is behind all the robots and monsters that have suddenly appeared? It is said that he is an underling of the Great Demon Cablon... Dark Marauder A robot said to have been used in industrial labor long ago on the mother star. Talos A giant whose duty long ago was to protect the populace. Hogerow An innocuous-looking fellow who is actually rather persistent. When you defeat him, you'll get a considerable number of experience points. Scorpirus A mutant scorpion. Attacks from the sky with frightful speed. pg. 31 ITEM Items You'll discover many items on your adventure. There are others than those listed here. Herb - Medicine that can recover your physical strength. Ruoginin - Medicine that can recover your physical strength; stronger than Herbs. Searchlight - Item necessary to explore caves. Soothe Flute - You can escape from caves by blowing this flute. Antidote - Medicine that can neutralize poison in the body. Spirit's Talisman - You can recover MP by using this. Mirror of Wisdom - Can tell you your attack power, defensive power, and the weapons and armor you have equipped. TranScarf - Can return you to the last town or village you visited. Alsulin - Can restore companions who have been wounded in battle. pg. 31 The heroes need weapons and armor in order to be able to continue on their journey. There are more powerful weapons and armor than those listed here. Weapons Wood Cane - A wooden cane. The very first weapon you have. Short Sword - You'll also get this from the chief of the village near the start of the game. Titanium Sword - Sword said to have been created with the advanced science of the mother star. Laser Gun - Gun that blasts enemies to bits with powerful laser beams. Armor Laser Cloth - A leather garment. You should protect your body with this right away! Magic Mantle - A mantle that deflects enemy attacks with the power of magic. Laser Shield - A leather shield. The cheapest of all the shields. Ceramic Shield - The most cost-effective shield. pg. 32 MAGIC Magic As Alec and Minima continue their battle, they will come to learn many different magics. Attack Magics Magic - MP Consumed - Effect Flaeli - 4 - Flame attack magic. Bindwa - 15 - Binds enemies hand and foot so they cannot move. Anti-Craft - 16 - Can seal enemy magic. Telele - 20 - Can weaken enemy attacks. Ruukire - 24 - Confuses enemies. Hewn - 28 - Batters enemies with tornadoes. Powma - 40 - Raises an ally's attack power by 50%. Tandle - 45 - Attacks enemies with lightning. Basara - 48 - Doubles an ally's attack power - but it can render them wounded as well, so you'll need Alsulin. pg. 33 Surf - 62 - Envelops enemies in a vacuum, suffocating them.
