[heart] Todaaaaaay, I'd like to give my sincere thanks to you for picking up "Tin Waltz," this doujinshi by Nekono Pochi and Chiya Nukui! I'm so thrilled to be collaborating with Chiya Nukui (who's writing the Afterword!). We _really_ worked hard at it, so please take your time and enjoy it (if only a little)! 5/1995 Pochi Nekono pg. 5 RIVAL [A frustrated Edgar is brooding in his study.] Edgar [thinking]: There's something that's REALLY been bothering me lately... And that is... [We see a close-up of Locke.] Edgar [thinking]: that Locke's popularity in Figaro has just _skyrocketed_ recently (particularly with the ladies)... [Edgar eavesdrops on a couple young servant girls.] Girl 1: Locke is _sooooo_ sweet, isn't he!? Girl 2: He _always_ stops to help you out when you need a hand! SFX: Tee hee! SFX of a peeved Edgar: GRRR pg. 6 Girl 1: I mean, he's not at ALL like the King (wherever *he* is...). [Next we see, Edgar has collapsed face-down in his pillows.] SFX: AHHHH--WHAT A SHOCK!! Edgar [thinking]: ...and this happens all the _time_... No...no... I've _got_ to calm down about this... [Edgar rises from his bed and tries to compose himself.] Edgar [thinking]: I've got to recapture my royal dignity... Speaking of keeping my composure, there sure have been a lot of earthquakes recently...better be careful. [Note: "Jishin" in Japanese can mean either "self-confidence" or "earthquake".] Edgar in inset: *Tuh.* What'm I thinking. pg. 7 Edgar [thinking]: Anyhow, I've at *least* got to recapture my popularity among the ladies! [Edgar encounters the two servants from before. They're having trouble opening a wooden box that's sitting in a hallway.] Girl 1: It won't open!... Girl 2: Maybe it's just stuck... Edgar [noticing]: Oh! [He gives a cheerful wave and grin.] Edgar: What's wrong, my lovely ladies? Edgar [thinking]: What an ideal opportunity to become Mr. Popular again! Edgar: May I offer my assistance? Girls: Your Majesty!! Girl 1: We just lost the key to this box... Girl 2: It won't open! [sweatdrop] Edgar: Let's see, now... [Edgar approaches the box warily, but...] Edgar: Hup-- SFX: RATTLE RATTLE Edgar: Ugh-- SFX: RATTLE Edgar: ARRRRGH~~!! SFX: RATTLE RATTLE GRRR [...the box remains undefeated.] SFX above a silent Edgar: NO GOOD. pg. 8 Girl 1: Uh, ummm... Your Majesty, you don't have to go to all that trouble... We'll just ask Locke. He's a thief, so he's _sure_ to know how to open it! [Edgar seethes.] Edgar [thinking]: *Locke*..._hmmm?_ [Edgar, frustrated, wanders away.] Edgar [thinking]: If I don't do something soon, I won't be able to show my face at court! Edgar: That's it! Edgar [thinking]: If I can make Locke look bad... Label on Locke in Edgar's mental sketch: Locke looking bad Girl 1 in Edgar's mental sketch: Locke's such a _feeb._ Edgar [thinking]: ...*and*... Servant Girls in Edgar's daydream, admiring a Tuxedo Mask-ish Edgar: I always _knew_ King Edgar was the _coolest!_ KYAAAA~~~ (And he looks good with roses, too!) Edgar [thinking]: ...voila. Edgar: ALL RIGHT!! WATCH OUT, LOCKE!! pg. 9 Edgar [thinking]: By the way, where _is_ Locke? [Edgar finds Locke outside chatting with Terra.] Edgar [thinking]: _THERE_ HE IS!! And he's with Terra, too. what an opportunity! ALL RIGHT, LET's GO!! Edgar: LOOOOOCKE!! [Both Terra and Edgar turn surprised to see...Edgar's fist raised, as if he took a wrong turn at Fist of the North Star.] Edgar: WITNESS MY TECHNIQUE!! ULTRA SUPER SPECIAL DYNAMITE GOLDEN RETRIEVERRRR!! _ATTACK!!_ Author's Note by Edgar's Fist: what the hell [sweatdrop] pg. 10 [Edgar moves forward...] SFX of Locke's bandana: shoop [...and slips the thief's bandana up higher on his head. Locke's normally tousled, spiky hairstyle now looks like that of a -] Edgar: _PINEAPPLE!!_ Author's Note by Helpful Illustration of Pineapple: what the hell [lol] SFX of Edgar ninjaing back in place: wHOOSH Edgar: heh heh Locke [sweatdropping]: ...Edgar? pg. 11 Edgar [grinning from ear to ear]: IT SUITS YOU, LOCKE! Edgar [thinking]: Heh! He won't be stealing any hearts with _that_ hairstyle! Edgar [running away]: Well, then, FAREWELL!! A HA HA HA HA HA!! SFX of Locke slumping to the floor: ACK Locke: I don't get it...no matter how long I know him, I'll _never_ understand how that guy thinks. Can't someone _do_ something about him? [sweatdrop] Note on Terra: trying to hide her laughter END Author's Note: stupid pg. 12 TREASURE [HEART] [Terra happily cradles a small stone in her hand.] Narration: The treasure of Terra Branford - a shattered Magicite shard... Terra: Mmm...*bliss.* [This is a reference to Terra's character profile in the Japanese version, which gives her personal treasure as a shard of Magicite. Anyhow - then...] SFX of mallet on rock: SMASH [Terra happily cradles several small stones in her hand.] Terra: *Ahhhh*...now I have even *more* treasures! SFX of stones on face: rub rub Locke in background, pulling hair out: AAAAH!! _ANOTHER_ PHOENIX MAGICITE CRACKED!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Note: 6/1995 Nekono Pochi: I think I wrote another manga by the same name [lol] pg. 13 I'VE SAID IT BEFORE, BUT I'M A LOCKE/TERRA FAN Locke: Celes... SFX of Celes: WHIRL [Celes looks behind her to find Locke holding a burlap sack.] Locke: These are... the treasures I found in the Phoenix Cave! [Locke winks cheerily.] Celes [overwhelmed]: Locke... pg. 14 [Then...] Celes: CELESSSSSS _KICK!!!_ SFX: BAM [Celes delivers a roundhouse kick to Locke's jaw.] SFX of blood from Locke's nose: spurt note on Celes's thighs: fat thighs Celes: Why the _hell_ were you opening up all the TREASURE CHESTS!? You understand what it's _LIKE_ to go to every chest and get _"EMPTY"_!?!?! _YOU SNEAK THIEF!!!_ Terra [cradling a collapsed Locke, who's bleeding all over her shirt]: Celes... Locke was just doing his best... You shouldn't be giving him such a tough time!... Locke [delirious]: TERRRRAAaaaAAaaaaaa~~ arrow at Terra: has really taken her foster-mother role at Mobliz to heart Locke [sotto voce]: (Yeahhhh...tha's righ', tha's righ'... It hurts, it HURTS...take me AWAY...) Celes: HEH. Author's Note: 5/1995 Nekono Pochi. Oh, man...like I said, I'm REALLY bad at these kind of expressions... pg. 15 [A splash-page illustration of Gau and Cyan.] 'S Freetalk! I'm at Prin-Print right now; I'm just about to send this to press again, sob sob (sob). Nukui-san's waiting for me at the moment. Naturally, I have my days mixed up. This time, the tone was put in almost entirely by my *good friend* (lol) Kazu Hijiro-san. Oooooh... [sweatdrop] Man, what kind of person am I... [sweatdrop] Ohhh...and Nukui-san is just the _best_ at manga... (Geez, you could at least write the right kanji! [sweatdrop]) Nukui-san's just gonna _hate_ me, _isn't_ she... [sweatdrop] I mean, I know I'm a horrible person, but to be _hated_... Pleeeeeeeeease don't hate me! [sweatdrop] - 6/1995 Nekono Pochi [Well, I wouldn't hate you for the toner thing, but the endless apologies...] pg. 16 by Chiya MY CHERISHED PAST [Relm is examining a telescope.] Relm: Hey, Edgar, what's this? Edgar [in background]: Oh, that. It's a telescope! For a while! I was just utterly mad about astronomy. Relm: Anything else you've been utterly mad about? Edgar: Well... When I was five, there was painting...at ten, archery... After that, I took an interest in various forms of music one after another...at 15, I became just _obsessed_ with rock... Relm: WITH..._LOCKE?_ Infatuated Edgar in Relm's imagination, schoolgirlishly mooning over Locke's face: Ahhhh...*Locke*... [Note: As you probably know, the "r" sound in Japanese is used to represent both the English "l" and "r" sounds, so "rock" and "Locke" are represented by the same characters in the native Japanese.] Edgar [oblivious]: Yes, rock! (Such interesting music!) Narrator: Relm seems to be under a bit of a misunderstanding... END pg. 17 THAT'S THE FALCON, NOW MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS!! Nekono Pochi 3/1995 [An iffily-drawn Falcon ascends in the heavens.] Narrator: from the ED Label on second iffily-drawn Falcon: Falcon SFX for gloating dove flying by: GLINT [As in the ED, the dove is flying ahead of the airship.] Locke: Hey! Setzer's crying! Celes: He's just happy 'cause we finally beat the game! Setzer [thinking]: CONGRATULATIONS, WORLD'S FASTEST!! pg. 18 MAGIC PHRASES MUST GO LIKE THIS (nonsense) Locke [casting magic]: FIRAGA!! Sabin [casting magic]: BLIZZAGA!! Edgar [casting magic]: THUNDAGA!! Celes [watching, thinking]: You know, back near the beginning of the game, when it was only Terra & me who could use magic, I had a pretty healthy superiority complex, but now, I'm just...irritated? Celes: Heh heh heh... Terra: ...Celes?... 6/1995 Nekono Pochi pg. 19 [A dramatic shot of a dashing Edgar with one of his tools on his shoulder.] FREE TALK Hiii. It's Chiya Nukui here. Well, here I am with yet another FF6 book. And again a gag-only book. [sweatdrop] I always get the idea that I'd like to draw something other than a gag manga, but I always go back to the easy gags... [sweatdrop] It takes so much to draw up the info page correctly that I get sick of things by the end of it. [sweatdrop] Changing the subject - I've been on the fence as to whether to make this my last FF6 book. [sweatdrop] I just wonder...what kind of book should I draw next... [sweatdrop] If you have any requests, I'd be thrilled to hear them! [beam] (Um, at the moment, if I have the free time to respond, I will write back if you send me a letter. (Sorry for not always writing back! [sweatdrop] I do always enjoy your letters, though!)) By the way, I'm doing a Fire Emblem doujin next, so if you'd take a look at it - even take a glance at it! - I'd be thrilled... (By the way, when I have my little sister help me put in the tone, there ends up being a ridiculous amount of tone. It looks interesting, so I'm leaving it like this. Well, where do you suppose they are?) pg. 20 THAT'S LIFE. [Locke comes upon Celes in captivity in South Figaro.] Locke: ARE YOU ALL RIGHT? [Celes lifts her face in response...] SFX: BAM [...and we see it is predictably swollen after being punched.] Locke: Um... [sweatdrop] [Locke turns and begins to walk away.] Locke: I didn't see anything... I didn't see anything... I didn't see anything... (whew...) arrow: Celes 6/1995 Nekono Pochi C'mon, her face'd been punched, hadn't it? pg. 21 [A montage of the girls in the game, Celes glomping Terra with Relm, Rachel, and a short-haired girl in the background.] FREE TALK [OK, just assume that every sentence in the below paragraph ends with a self-deprecating sweatdrop.] For some reason, I never draw the female characters, so I tried drawing them all at once. The two below are Daryl and Rachel. To the right are Terra and Celes in a suspiciously lovey-dovey pose. I didn't intend for that... I just think these two are pretty good friends! I just love the part in the ED where Celes gets so worried about Terra... And they're the same age and all... I'm secretly a Terra-Locke fan... I like it when that kind of hero and heroine (er, no) get together... Um, I also like Setzer-Celes and Edgar/Relm (uh, *what*...). But Locke-Terra is naturally my favorite! 6/1995 Nekono Pochi in Prin-Print... pg. 22 A DESPERATE JOKE [arrow at broken font] <- font depicts desperate expression Celes [post-freedom in Locke]: Why are you protecting me?... Locke: You look like her... I mean, you have two eyes, just like a woman...and 1 nose and 1 mouth, just like a woman... Narrator: In that case, *anyone* looks like a woman... 5/1995 Nekono Pochi pg. 23 FOR RACHEL CHIYA NUKUI Locke: Relm... I have a request to make... Relm: Hm? What? Locke: I was wondering if you could paint a portrait of Rachel... SFX of Relm's book: SLAM Relm: ...OK, but... if Celes finds out, I know nothing. Locke: ...OK. pg. 24 Celes, however, has already found out, as she is standing unseen outside Relm's door. Celes [thinking]: *LOCKE*... I *heard* that... SFX: GRRRR... Celes [thinking]: I won't forgive this! Grrr... Narration: 4 hours later... [Relm has finished Rachel's portrait.] Locke: It looks just like Rachel... Just what I'd expect from you, Relm... pg. 25 [The frame pulls back, though, and we see that Locke is staring not at the portrait but at the facsimile of Rachel that has sprung to life in the wake of Relm's pictomancy. She sits doll-like in a nearby chair.] Locke: But your skills really are as impressive as ever, Relm! Relm: Heh heh - thanks! [music note] [Suddenly, though...] SFX: BIP Author's Note: That's Rachel [sweatdrop] [A dot appears in the middle of Rachel's forehead.] Locke: ? Hey...Relm... This isn't right... Rachel doesn't have a birthmark he... SFX: SQUEAK Locke: ......Huh? (Wha?) [We see the dot has enlarged into a line.] pg. 26 [The line then expands into letters, and eventually forms a message...] Message on Rachel's Forehead: LOCKE, YOU JACKASS!! SFX of unperturbed Rachel: SMILE Locke: !! Rachel...that message on your face... SFX: WOBBLE Locke: ...is that a... silent accusation... ...against...me?... [Meanwhile...] Celes [to herself]: Locke, you jackass... [Celes, unseen by a panicking Locke, has taken Relm's sketchpad and written those very words on the forehead of the sketched Rachel.] Celes: HMPH. SFX: SCRIBBLE SCRIBBLE Celes: (Should I give her a moustache too, I wonder?...) Locke [oblivious, freaking out over Rachel]: AAAA-- What did I do wrong!? Tell me! TELL ME, RACHEL!! SFX of Rachel's lifeless head: LOLL LOLL Relm: So you're behind this, huh, Celes... (It's not nice to steal someone's sketchbook...) pg. 27 GET GERAD! [Celes and Sabin watch Edgar hop over the turtle.] Celes [peeking from behind cave wall]: Sabin! You saw that, right? Sabin [obviously not having seen this]: Uh...yeah. SFX of Celes's foot: step Celes: Let's go! [Celes jumps and lands, but...] SFX: GULP Celes: Huh? [Then...] SFX: SPLASH Sabin: AH-- !! [The turtle has sunk.] SFX on surface of water: blub blub Narrator: FF6 END 6/1995 Nekono Pochi just before print time... [sweatdrop] [cry] pg. 28 Narrator: The Merit Award...a Relic that allows one to equip any weapons and armor... Locke [to Setzer]: Hey... We should put Cyan, Strago, Umaro, and Gogo- chan all in Minerva Bustiers... SFX of Locke's heart: pound pound Setzer: Hmm.... [We see images in Locke's imagination of Gogo and Cyan in corsets.] Author's Note: Attention: My Gogo is female. Image of Cyan: :giggle: Author's Note: fanservice ::dies:: [Meanwhile...] The Real Gogo [casting spell]: NO WAY!! Author's Note: PUNISHMENT METEO Locke & Setzer: EEEEEEEEEEK--!! 6/1995 Nekono Pochi Actually, it allows you to equip heavy equipment only... pg. 29 [Setzer is in Daryl's Tomb.] Narration: Carve words on the tombstone? Setzer: Words, hmm? Well, all we have so far is... Celes: "SURA"... Edgar: "TOMO"... Sabin: "KANI"... Setzer: And "YOYA"... Put it together, and we have... pg. 30 Edgar: "Kani sura, tomo yo! (ya)" Setzer: WHAAAAAA Tombstone: CRACK [Note: Edgar's proposal means "Only a crab, my friend!" The tombstone puzzle in Japanese is supposed to go "Tomo yo, yasuraka ni": "Rest in peace, my friend".] Narration: Nothing appropriate comes to mind... [irritation] Sabin: You're just so _cool,_ big bro! Edgar: Whaa? You're saying that's not appropriate? If she only had a crab, he'd be her friend, am I right~~? Setzer: _HEY!_ Are you trying to make FUN of Daryl?!?! Celes: "If only I had a crab, I'd have a friend"... That'd be a pretty tasty friend... 5/1995 Nekono Pochi, art pg. 31 [A juxtaposition of a full-body Terra and a portrait of Relm.] INFORMATION CHIYA NUKUI Chiya Nukui's doujinshi circle is "Saru no Yakata" ["Monkey House"]. I really tried with the art on this book, but it came out like all the others... (It was supposed to be painstaking than my usual work, at least... Take some pages out, OK?) I had planned this time for a Locke and Edgar book, so I drew mostly only them, but I wonder what Nekono Pochi-san did? I'm so looking forward to it! But I'm so sorry for getting in Nekono Pochi-san's way so much! We had planned on publishing this one whole month ago, but it was late because of me, and we weren't able to keep the date...and the roughs are so dirty... Please don't give up on me...
